"Mastering for Dummies"
Very well and methodically presented, Mastering in Pro Tools will bring some tips and tricks to the table for the home studio owners. Clearly targeted to the novice engineer, with a basic gear and setup in mind. The videos will take you from the preparation of your multitrack mixes ( with recommendation to fix any problems at that stage First! ), through speakers calibration and balancing, again talking about not high end monitors. You will see then what needs to be done on a mix and what not during the final most critical stage of record producing. The best part is the "Signal Flow" discussion. If you are a little more advanced you might be annoyed by what a basic EQ functions are or Digidesign Compressor. Youll figure if someone is already at this stage of the production, should already know how those processors work. Although I gotta say, new techniques and plugins are also discussed such as Mid/Side mastering EQ, which is worth your money watching just there! Series ends with creating you master copy CD with all the necessary codes and documentation. It is done in a program that is no longer in manufacturing and used to be running on OS9 years back called "Jam". You should probably consider using Steinbergs WaveLab instead. Overall great info, but it will never replace what an actual Mastering Engineer would be able to do to your mixes in a real studio with real Main Speakers and Outboard Gear. You will like the information anyway and will definitely add to your knowledge, not to mention having all that in the palm of your hand and your pocket. (Videos worked perfectly on the iPhone 4 model in HD resolution)
